Lagos to Commence Work on 44 Projects - Fashola

Feb 9, 2008 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Saturday revealed that in the next four weeks, 44 projects involving hospitals, schools and roads would commence with contractors being mobilized to site in the State.

Governor Fashola also said the N403Billion 2008 budget would be used to transform the state, saying, “Our dream is to dream great dreams and set about achieving them”.

Fashola who spoke at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Lagos State branch 2008 Interdenominational divine service held at T.A.C LAWNA International Convention Ground, Oworonshoki expressway at Ketu.

While reiterating his commitment to use every project to create jobs in Lagos , Governor Fashola said the State Government has already made it mandatory for every contractor to provide jobs for young people at project sites.
Lagos State, Governor Fashola asserted, has already blazed the trail to ensure that the people get loans to run businesses without hassles by signing a micro finance bill into law.

He called on religious leaders to use their sermons to reinvigorate the sense of empathy in the people, adding that there is a need to preach tolerance and love for one another.

The Governor also said it is only these attributes that can ensure that the people live in peace always as exemplified by the fact that Nigerians have always lived in unity despite its diversity.

Governor Fashola buttressed the point with an anecdote that these days there are instances of commercial vehicles breaking down on the highways and the occupants seating by and watching the conductor pushing and trying to kick start the vehicle single-handedly.

He described the thanksgiving service as a well intentioned and conceived programme which should continue as it represents a means of promoting peace and brotherliness in the state.

He also expressed the gratitude of the present administration to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for its support and prayers which have been extremely beneficial.

He said he would continue to seek the support of religious leaders to take Lagos to the zenith. While admitting that the massive population of Lagos provides enormous challenge to the administration, he promised to make the state clean, beautiful and a beloved centre of excellence.

He enthused that a quest for the social economic rebirth of the nation has begun and that everyone must contribute his or her own quota to ensure that “we build a state were everyone can achieve his goals”.
