Fashola Reassures All Lagosians Of Provision Of Quality Projects
Sep 19, 2008 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Friday reassured the people of Lagos that irrespective of which part of the state they reside, the State Government would provide quality projects which would impact meaningfully in the lives of the people.
The Governor who spoke during a tour of some on-going projects at Surulere, Apapa and Ajeromi/ Ifelodun Local Government areas added that “from Ajegunle, to Orile or Apapa and Ikoyi, we use quality, we would not settle for anything less”.
Governor Fashola explained that it is very discernible to everyone from the various project sites visited, starting from the Bridge at Wilmer Crescent, the roads in Ajegunle, Apapa and the Magistrate courts at Mbah Street and Aerodrome road, the top quality work done.
While commenting on the controversial population figure of nine million ascribed to Lagos by the National Population Commission, Governor Fashola tasked the media to bring the reality of the huge population of Lagos to anyone in doubt through their reporting. He declared: “Certainly a picture tells a thousand stories, you can see several thousands of people who have come out from everywhere that we stopped and all of these in a very small territorial land area”.
Continuing, he said “you can see human activity, you can see the children and you see the pressure on infrastructure”.
Rhetorically, Governor Fashola asked “is there any other State of the Federation where you can see much impact in commensurate terms, pressure on infrastructure, pressure on schools, pressure on hospitals, roads?.
He added that every everywhere is turning into markets, with more people coming into Lagos on a continuous basis but with no intention to go back again.
Governor Fashola assured the people, that if the state government can successfully achieve 9.1metres full width alignment on the Wilmer road under construction without touching any building, then no building would be demolished.
He explained that the government is always concerned about dislocating people when buildings have to be demolished.
Other places visited by the Governor included Opeloyeru street in Surulere, Aero Drome and Warehouse roads in Apapa as well as Magistrate Court under construction at Mba Street in Ajegunle.
The Governor was received by a very large enthusiastic crowd of the young and old at all the projects points visited and also encountered an elderly woman at Wilmer Crescent who was moved to tears while expressing her appreciation for the transformation which the Governor has brought to the area.
