Fashola At Oshiomhole’s Inauguration, Says: Dark Days Are Over In Edo State

Nov 12, 2008 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Wednesday joined former Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande and other top leaders of the Action Congress (AC) in Benin to witness the oath taking ceremony of labour activist and candidate of the Action Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the Governor of Edo State.

Speaking with Airport Correspondents on arrival from Benin at the Presidential wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Governor Fashola said with the swearing in, the dark days have gone from Edo State.

He added that for multi party democracy, the ceremony brings forth a very strong signal that Nigeria is sending to the international community that even in this part of the world democratical best practices can emerge.

He added that this has been underscored by the fact that the majority party has lost its seat and in deference to the rule of law, allowed the will of the people to prevail.

He explained that the people of Edo have to be patient with the new Governor and his team while understanding his challenges of providing service, sustaining life and humanity.

While expressing appreciation to the judiciary, Governor Fashola said it has restored hope and reinforced the belief that only the law can save with the Edo people already making their choice and being reinforced by the judiciary.

Governor Fashola, while responding to a question on what useful lessons the newly sworn in Governor could learn from his hands on approach in Lagos, said the post inauguration speech of Governor Oshiomhole showed that he has a clear understanding of the challenges ahead of him promising to continue to exchange notes with the new Governor.

Said he: “I will certainly have useful things to also learn from him. We are not afraid to share knowledge”.

In his inauguration speech, Governor Oshiomhole expressed appreciation to Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) for his presence at the ceremony and also thanked all leaders of the Action Congress for being steadfast during the struggle to reclaim his mandate.
