Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Complex Redevelopment: Tenants Thank Fashola For Promise Kept
Nov 28, 2008 - Tenants of the Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Complex in Surulere, Sunday expressed gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), for keeping his promise to relocate them to the complex after its redevelopment.
The tenants, who are members of the Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping Complex Tenants Association, had taken the State Government to court over the proposal to redevelop the complex but had to withdraw the case when they observed that the administration took seriously the assurance which Governor Fashola gave them that they would be given first consideration and relocated to the complex after the redevelopment exercise.
Chairman of the Association, Engineer Mobolaji Onibudo, who spoke on behalf of the Association when Governor Fashola went on an inspection tour of the Complex, said the relocation was a sign of the transparency of the present administration and a further proof of Governor Fashola’s genuine desire to work for the people of Lagos.
Onibudo, who expressed joy at the arrangement, thanked the Governor for bringing the issue to a peaceful conclusion and assured that his members, would cooperate with the State Government in ensuring that the remainder of the redevelopment project is carried out without any hitches.
Responding, Governor Fashola said the project was meant to raise the status of the shopping complex and make it more conducive for doing business, adding that the intention of the Government was not to deprive anyone of what rightly belonged to him or her.
“We have achieved what we set out to achieve. This is the kind of environment that someone needs to do business. Nobody is out to take what does not belong to one”, the Governor said, adding that the proposal was to redevelop the complex.
Restating his administration’s commitment to give the people the best, Governor Fashola also thanked the association members for cooperating with his administration by allowing reason to prevail at the initial stages of the project, adding that his government would always keep to its promises to the people of the State.
The Governor who was received on arrival at the complex by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Town Planner Franscisco Abosede, was conducted round the complex by the Managing Director of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC), Mr. Biodun Oki while the Managing Director of Top Services Limited, the Joint Venture Partners, Architect Tokunbo Omisore explained the progress of work at the complex. Also on hand to receive the Governor was Mr. Babajimi Benson, Company Secretary/Legal Adviser of LSDPC.
The Managing Director of LSDPC, Mr. Biodun Oki stated that the uniqueness of the strategy used in accommodating the existing tenants was the “Stay In Business Approach” which meant that while construction was going on the livelihood of the tenants was not affected. Also an insurance cover was taken he added, for the safety of their goods and life while redevelopment lasted.
Town Planner Abosede explained that the redeveloped complex has multi-level parking space for 300 cars adding that all the banks doing business at the current location would also be relocated to the redeveloped complex.
The Commissioner said work would soon commence on the second phase of the project as soon as the tenants moved to the redeveloped part of the complex.
