Fashola Honours 14 LASTMA, LASAMBUS Officers For Efficient Service Delivery
Aug 24, 2009 - The Lagos State Government Monday rewarded 14 officers of the State’s Transport Management Agency (LASTMA) and Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) with Certificates of Commendation for their roles in the rescue and treatment of two accident victims in the Agege area of Lagos.
The officers, seven from LASTMA and seven from LASAMBUS, were said to have played very important roles in the rescue and treatment of the victims on July 30, this year when the car they were travelling in hit a tree.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele, who gave the introductory remarks before the presentations which took place in the Executive Council Chambers at the Lagos House Alausa, the victims were mother and son who were on there way to hospital when the son, an epileptic patient, had an attack causing the car to lose control and hit a tree.
The LASTMA officers on duty were quick to respond to the distress call as they rushed the victims to the nearest LASAMBUS Centre where they were immediately attended to via First Aid treatment after which they were taken to the State’s University Teaching Hospital where the doctor on duty, Dr. Adeshina Ademola, promptly treated them.
In his remarks before the presentations, the State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), said the public commendation is the State Government’s way of demonstrating the value it places on human life trusted in its care adding that it is also a show of appreciation to every member of the State’s Public Service who diligently commit to the oath to save life that are at risk in the State.
The Governor said the State Government is as much ready to reward sterling public service as it is also ready to sanction all unacceptable behaviours when they have been brought to its attention adding that in some instances, the State Attorney General has been asked to lead prosecution in cases where the officers have contravened the Laws of the State.
“In the way that we have sanctioned all unacceptable behaviour when it has been brought to our attention, in some cases asking the Attorney-General to lead prosecution where those acts constitute a violation of our laws by the public officers, it is important also to commend this kind of sterling public service like the men and officers of LASTMA and men and women of LASAMBUS and the doctor on duty in our public hospital”, the Governor said.
Commending the officers for their dedication to duty, Governor Fashola declared, “I sincerely hope that this would not be seen as a celebration but a call to higher responsibility because the credo of our Government here is that the only reward we would get for good job is more work. I expect you to do more work managing traffic, keeping Lagos traffic flowing, responding to any emergencies that may occur among citizens that you may have a contact with”.
“I believe that if a few of you can become model of the best practice in public service that Lagos State may move forward”, the Governor said.
Narrating the event leading to the commendation earlier, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Opeyemi Bamidele said the acts by the officers of LASTMA and LASAMBUS has become a success story of the State Government’s healthcare delivery service which, according him, is focused on saving life of the citizenry.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Professor Bamidele Badejo, in his remarks thanked Governor Fashola for the gesture saying that it would go a long way to encourage other officers to put in their best at all times.
The LASAMBUS officers who were presented to the Governor for the Commendation Certificates by the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Jide Idris were, Dr. Ademola Adesina, the doctor on duty at LASUTH, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Ilawole, Mrs. Rafiat Gbenro, Mr. Victor Atunwa, Miss. Rofiat Oseni, Mrs. Mujidat Raji and Mr. Adetokunbo Alausa who is chief driver/Mechanic.
The LASTMA officers who were presented the Certificates were Mr. Oladimeji Falana, Mr. Abayomi Kazeem, Mr. Salisu Maha, Mr. Dapo Thani-Olodo, Mr. Semiu Alli, Mr. Adekunle Babawale and Mr. Adeboye Shobajo.
Also present at the occasion were all members of the State Executive Council including the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, the Secretary to the State Government, Princess Denrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya, the Head of Service, Alhaji Yakub Balogun and the Chief of Staff, Mr. Lanre Babalola. Others include the Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Muiz Banire and his Waterfront Infrastructure Development counterpart, Prince Adesegun Oniru, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Olasupo Sasore (SAN), Special Adviser Transportation, Mr. Kayode Opeifa and his Taxation and Revenue counterpart, Mr. Ade Ipaye among other top Government functionaries.
