Let’s Imbibe The Spirit Of Sharing, Caring - Fashola Tells Nigerians At Christmas
Dec 23, 2009 - As Nigerians join the rest of Christendom to celebrate Christmas, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Wednesday urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of sharing and caring for the vulnerable in the society.
In his Christmas Message, Governor Fashola said sharing and giving are at the core of the teachings and practice of Jesus Christ who shared and gave even His own life while he lived among men.
He declared, “Let us give and share love with each other in our families, in our homes, in our places of work and business and everywhere we interact with our fellow men. Let us care for the vulnerable and give unconditional love.
“Over the years, the lessons of Christmas and Jesus Christ whose birth became the reason for this season resonate in teachings like unconditional love, forgiveness of sin, grace, sharing and championing the cause of the weak and the oppressed as well as the vulnerable. These teachings bear underscoring and should not be lost on humanity”, the Governor said.
Governor Fashola also enjoined all Nigerians to renew their faith in our nation and hope in the possibility of lifting it up to become one of the greatest in the world, adding, “It is achievable. It is possible only if we believe and continue to ventilate our faith in the oneness and unity of this nation. It is achievable if we continue to live in peace and harmony. Let us all find strength rather than weakness in our diversity”.
Congratulating Christians and all Nigerians on the occasion of the Christmas celebrations, Governor Fashola thanked Lagos residents for living in harmony and peace in spite of their religious and ethnic diversity.
“I thank all Lagosians, all the people who have chosen to make Lagos their homes from diverse backgrounds for living in peace and harmony. I urge you to continue in this spirit as we strive to make life even better for residents in the years ahead”, Governor Fashola said.
