Yar'adua's Death: Fashola Speaks On Way Forward
…Describes late President as a man who was passionate about his country

May 6, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday said as Nigerians mourn the demise of late President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, the way forward is to concentrate on those developmental issues which continue to challenge nations both rich and poor .

Governor Fashola who spoke in an interview with Aviation Correspondents at the Presidential wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja after his return from Abuja added that some of those issues are encapsulated in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the Ten Points Agenda or the Seven Points Agenda.

He added that they include problems of healthcare and its issues, renewable energy and its issues, problems of public transportation and security which is a global challenge.

He added: "We need to do a lot more to be able to respond to the needs and aspiration of our people. Let us roll up our sleeves and get the work done".

Governor Fashola described the incident as very tragic for a nation which has lost a leader and a President.

He described late President Umaru Yar'Adua as: "A man who truly endured pain with dignity. A man who was passionate about his country and tried to change things but was limited by his very monumental battle with ill-health".

He prayed for the dear and truly gentle soul of late President Yar'Adua and that Almighty Allah remains and abide with all his dependants.
