Fashola Renews Administration's Commitment To Youth Development
…Urges youths to shun drugs, pornography, other vices
Jul 24, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Saturday renewed his administration's commitment to youth empowerment in the State declaring that for as long as he remains the Governor he is going to make sure their dreams come true.
Governor Fashola who spoke at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere at the Lagos Empowerment And Resource Network (L.E.A.R.N) organized programme, 'A Time Out With The Youth' tagged, "Daytime of Talk, Dance and Laughs" however urged the youth to shun drug, pornography and bad behaviour.
He said an investment in the development of the Youth is better than an investment in gold or oil because it represents the resource of the human capacity, stressing that with the youths gathered at the event he sees the greatest people on the African Continent there.
Governor Fashola explained that part of what it requires is hardwork, dedication, honesty and capacity to seek the truth at all times.
He commended the Lagos Empowerment And Resource Network (LEARN) initiated by the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola for making an investment in the Youth and inspiring them to know that they can dare to be different.
Citing Lagos as an example, Governor Fashola said many things which were hitherto regarded as impossible are now working perfectly, saying before its introduction, many critics said the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) will never work.
Governor Fashola said the same applies to Oshodi which some people said cannot be decongested unless the Government constructs another bridge noting that the area has been opened up because the people signed on to a new life.
In the same vein, the Governor noted that it was the view of some people that it was impossible for Lagos State to be clean, but that after two years it has been adjudged as cleanest capital in Nigeria.
Governor Fashola urged the Youth to stay away from bad behaviour, drugs, pornography and lies, while commending all those who have invested wisely in the Youth through LEARN saying they have invested in those who will look after them when they are gone and keep their name alive.
The programme which witnessed massive attendance by pupils and youths from all over the state also featured motivational speakers and musical performances.
