Eid-Il-Kabir: "Let Us Reflect On Values Of Our Common Humanity", Fashola Urges Nigerians
Nov 15, 2010 - As Nigerian Muslims join their counterparts all over the world to celebrate this year's Eid-il-Kabir, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), has called on Nigerians to reflect on the societal values that border on our common humanity.
In his Sallah message signed by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Opeyemi Bamidele, the Governor urged Nigerians to use the period to pray for the restoration of the values of love for neighbours and for one another saying real human values lie in how much we touch the lives of others.
"As we celebrate today, my brothers and sister in Islam, it is time to spare a thought about our worldly pursuits and ambitions in relation to our societal values bearing in mind that we are only human and life is all vanity", Governor Fashola said.
According to the Governor, "Let us pray and ask the Almighty Allah to restore to us those values that remind us that our real values are not reflected in what we have but how much we touch the lives of those around us, especially those put under our care".
"The season", Governor Fashola noted, "is symbolic of the Islamic injunction of sacrificial giving and total submission to The Almighty Allah by whose grace we have survived to celebrate yet another Eid-il-Kabir in spite of all the tribulations that have besieged the world around us in the last one year".
Extending his "warmest regards and good wishes of a joyous celebration" to all Lagosians, the Governor declared, "As a Government that is resolved to serve you, we will continue to create an enabling environment for business and commerce to thrive, bearing in mind that it is only in a peaceful and secure environment that prosperity can be achieved".
He urged them to "extend a hand of cooperation to the Government and to one another so that together we can achieve our collective dream of a model Mega-city".
