Ibeju-Lekki Holds Key To Nation's Future Prosperity, Says Fashola
…Reaffirms determination to break mortgage jinx as ACN Campaigns in lbeju Lekki

Mar 15, 2011 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Tuesday took his re-election campaign to Ibeju - Lekki area of the State, affirming that the future prosperity and development of the country lies in the Ibeju-Lekki sub region which is also the fastest growing real estate corridor on the African continent.

According to the Governor, businesses coming to the free trade zone located in the area are in the region of 25 Billion dollars over the next five years adding that the investments will create not less than 120,000 jobs.

The Governor who addressed thousands of Action Congress of Nigeria supporters and residents at an open field in Ibeju Lekki explained that the State Government is determined to break the mortgage jinx and has built over 2000 apartments which it has not sold in a bid to ensure that the houses are delivered to the people who are genuinely in need of it and under affordable mortgage terms.

"The houses would be available on a first come, first served basis for all those who apply. What you would pay is 30 percent of the value of the house that you choose. Thereafter , you will have the opportunity of paying over a period of 10 to 15 years and as the mortgage institutions develop, it may be increased to between 20 to 25 years".

Speaking on the immense investment and development opportunities unfolding in the Lekki sub-region, Governor Fashola declared:''I was in Scotland three days ago to conclude the transaction that would bring electricity directly to the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the Lekki sub region. We know our responsibilities to the ordinary people of Lagos and we would fulfil it.''

He also informed the party supporters who thronged the venue that the State Government has concluded the concept design on the Lekki Airport and is awaiting the details of the soil test which will determine the nature of the construction.

Governor Fashola also said Lekki will host the new international airport for Nigeria, just as work has reached advanced stage for the construction of the new seaport for Nigeria also to be located in the area.

"Lekki will host a new refinery and petrol chemical complex and also a fertilizer plant and a flour mill that will create jobs which will make Lekki the centre of new industrial rebirth for Nigeria."

"This administration will consolidate on what we have started and ensure that nothing declines as we go on", he emphasized.

Governor Fashola said in terms of excision of land in the Ibeju -Lekki area, he is personally scrutinizing the process to ensure that justice is done and that the land to which the people are entitled to is not reduced and that they get a fair reward for their efforts through a release of Certificate of Occupancy to the people.

He added that the State is building a Maternal and Child Care Centre in Eti Osa which is close by and has realized that there is a need to increase the stock of public schools in the region.

The Governor added that six public schools were constructed in the last four years, but more are in the works waiting for procurement approvals.

He urged the people of the area to keep the peace at all times and receive investors into the area with open hands thus demonstrating the readiness to take on the leadership role which Lagos State would play in the unfolding industrial rebirth of the country.

He adviced all registered voters to go out on each of the voting days to vote massively for all the candidates of the Action Congress of Nigeria and ensure that they police and defend their votes.

Governor Fashola who had earlier declared opened an ultra modern palace of Oba Onimedu of Orimedu land commended the efforts of the Chairman of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, Prince Bayo Balogun and Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area, Hon Raheem Olaiya for putting up the structure.

The Governor urged other Local Government Chairmen in the State to emulate the efforts of the two Chairmen.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the ACN in Lagos State, Chief Henry Ajomale urged the people to support all candidates of the party and ensure that they are voted in during the elections.

The State Chairman also presented the party's candidates in the Lagos East Senatorial district, Mr Gbenga Bareehu Ashafa, Hon Abayomi Ayoola for House of Representatives, Mr Mojeed Fatai for House of Assembly Constituency 1 and Mr Kazeem Raheem for Constituency 2 to the supporters.

Prominent among those who attended the rally were the First lady of Lagos State, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, RT Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji, Deputy Governorship Candidate of the ACN in Lagos State, Mr Joke Orelope- Adefulire, members of the State Executive Council, party leaders and supporters.
