• As Governor greets Christians at Easter.the Season of Renewal

Apr 23, 2011 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) at the weekend urged Lagos electorates to vote massively for candidates of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at the gubernatorial and other elections on Tuesday to enable the seed of transformation in the State to mature and flourish.

Governor Fashola, who spoke in a statewide broadcast to Lagosians on the occasion of Easter, said the administration he leads formed by the Action Congress of Nigeria has been tested and have shown, beyond all doubts that it can be trusted adding, "Our word is our bond".

"This is not the time for untested hands to come into government to experiment. The transformation and the progress we have achieved is too valuable to be used as an experiment. Let us stay with that which is working and transforming our State positively and improving our lives", the Governor said

Noting that good governance is achievable only through team work, Governor Fashola declared, "I urge you all not only to turn out en masse to vote for me, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, as your Governor. I equally enjoin you to vote for all the ACN candidates for the House of Assembly as well as our House of Representatives Candidates for Ikorodu, Shomolu and Ifako/Ijaiye".

"We have kept faith with the people of Lagos. We have endeavoured to build a big tent for Lagosians without discrimination in terms of ethnic origin or religious faith. Here, we love our neighbours as ourselves. That is why Lagos accommodates all people in Nigeria and our benefits are for everyone. This is a State of every state, a State of states. We pride ourselves as Nigeria's melting pot. That is the Spirit of Easter", the Governor said.

He continued, "It is in that spirit I urge you to cast your votes on Tuesday for the Action Congress of Nigeria at all levels. The seed that has been planted like a grain of mustard seed is growing. Let it mature to a big and flourishing tree. Vote for a Brighter Rewarding Future".

On the true lesson of Easter, as it relates to the transformation in Lagos, Governor Fashola, who noted that with love, courage, vision and principles, Jesus Christ demonstrated that miracles are possible and that things could get better than they were, declared, "In Lagos we believe in renewal because it is the way of progress. I am sure you are all witnesses of the spirit in Lagos State. It is the State of example in Nigeria. It is the State in which we take our responsibilities seriously".

"Our responsibilities are clear and as your servant in the past four years, I have tried my best to live up to that high ark. I did not promise miracles four years ago, but took your mandate with resolve. We had roads to construct, streets to clean and beautify, schools to lift and renovate, businesses to nurture, houses to build and peace to keep. You are all witnesses that Lagos underwent transformation. In the spirit of renewal, on Tuesday, we will go out to elect our Governor, members of the House of Assembly and House of Representatives in three of our local government", Governor Fashola further urged.

Describing Tuesday's elections as the most important of all the elections, Governor Fashola declared, "The quality of our lives in the next four years will depend significantly on the caliber and competence of those we elect as Governor and House of Assembly members. We can, therefore, not afford to treat this election with levity".

Recounting some of the achievements of his administration in the last four years, Governor Fashola declared, "Even our opponents agree that we have delivered on critical infrastructure and social services. These include water supply, modern road network, rehabilitation and equipment of public schools, environmental renewal, modern new markets, massive construction of drainage channels to prevent flooding, massive investment in rural roads, water and electrification as well as expansion and modernization of public health facilities, to name a few"..

Other areas where great strides have been covered by the present administration, Governor Fashola said, include, Housing, Education, Transportation, Security among others, adding that the administration will, in its second term intensify the on-going radical modernization of infrastructure including the 10-lane Badagry-Lagos Expressway, the Light Rail Project, the Eko Atlantic City Project and the Lekki Free Trade Zone as well as the transformation of Badagry as a major Tourist hub in Africa, among others.

Thanking all Lagos residents in all spheres of human endeavour, Governor Fashola declared, "Beloved Lagosians, the undeniable truth is that Lagos is working and why is this so?, It is simply because our party, the Action Congress of Nigeria and your government have worked diligently, day and night, to fulfill our Social Contract with Lagosians and justify the confidence reposed in us".
