Fashola, Fayemi, Jakande At Special Assembly Session To Honour Asiwaju Tinubu At 60

Mar 28, 2012 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola(SAN), his wife, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola and Deputy Governor, Hon (Mrs) Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire on Wednesday joined other notable Nigerians and political leaders at the special parliamentary session of the Lagos State House of Assembly to celebrate the 60th birthday of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu with glorious tributes being paid to the national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria.

The special parliamentary session which took place at the Assembly Chambers in Alausa also featured the conferment of honourary membership of the State House of Assembly on former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure and now Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

All the members who spoke paid glowing tributes to the national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria with each member recounting how they have personally benefitted from the vision of the man with passion and care.

The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adeyemi Ikuforiji while speaking said Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the Moses of this generation laid the foundation for the socio-economic and political development of Lagos by producing a blueprint for growth and development of the state in all spheres for decades to come.

He noted that once in a generation, history throws up rare leaders with great attitude and first class mind. "Our sage, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one such leader.. Arguably, this birthday boy's greatest achievement so far politically is the breeding of other capable achievers. Here in Lagos, the people remain ever grateful for your giving them an achiever, an actualiser, purposefully stubborn trail blazing Governor Babatunde Fashola(SAN)".

Speaking after he was conferred with the membership which permits him to attend all sessions of the House, Governor Aregbesola stated that he had always had interest in the Parliament.

He reiterated that no democratic government can be legitimate without the legislature because the difference between the monarchy and representative governance is the parliament.

Governor Aregbesola said what explains this is that the difference between the monarchy and representative governance is the parliament, explaining that what is supposed to be monarchical from modern representative governance is the House.

The Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Mallam Inuwa Garuba who attended the special session said to people in the north, Asiwaju Tinubu means Yoruba and the Yoruba means Asiwaju Tinubu, adding that he believes Lagos has gone this far because the House of Assembly is stable.

Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Mr Abdulrasaq Atunwa who also attended the session described Asiwaju Tinubu as a great icon of democracy and a great and worthy Nigerian.

The Special session was attended by the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, former Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, First Lady, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola, Deputy Governor, Hon (Mrs) Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, National Chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Chief Bisi Akande, members of the Lagos State Executive Council and former members of the State House of Assembly.
