Lagos Committed To Enhanced Service Delivery Through Residents' Registration - LASG

Nov 12, 2013 - As the December 1, 2013, deadline set by the Lagos State Government to customize its facilities for only residents who have registered with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) draws nearer, the government has called on Lagosians to hasten to complete their registration with the agency to enable them beat the deadline.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lateef Ibirogba, who made the call while fielding questions from newsmen in Alausa said the call became necessary as residents will from that date be required to produce their LASRRA Card, as evidence of registration, to be able to access government facilities.

He explained that data is a key ingredient of planning; governments that are desirous of planning well will always rely on data rather than guess work. He said the State is committed to having a reliable data base with which to plan well for the particular needs of areas so that government facilities would be provided as required rather than "as we think".

According to Ibirogba, the deadline became necessary because as the year draws to an end, government would have to plan well for the coming year to ensure that the resources available to it are deployed to provision of facilities as will be beneficial to the people based on the available data defining the demographies of areas and their priorities.

He said although the exercise will still be on-going as there is no deadline for it, government will from that date (December 1) make the registration a condition precedent to the use of the state provided facilities like enrolment of pupils in school, accessing of free health and other people oriented programmes of the government.

As he said, the State attached much importance to the exercise, which would ensure that all Lagosians, regardless of tribe or state of origin, were registered to build a reliable data for the government, stressing, "All we intend to achieve with the registration exercise is to build a reliable data base to be used for official planning and projections, as well as for security purposes. Such a data base would help us to know exactly how many people need that. It is for the overall development of the state and the security of the people".

Ibirogba urged residents to disregard any misleading insinuations about the exercise, as it was purely for planning and security purpose, adding that "it is free of charge and has no political ethnic or collection."

Meanwhile, the LASRRA has advised resident who want to register to visit registration centres with their rent receipt/utility bills and any of the following; international passport, employee's Identification Card with address and logo of employer, National ID Card or National Driving License, Students' ID Card, Tax Card or Receipt or letter of identification from Parent/ CDA Householder or registered association or organization to hasten their registration.
