…Fashola commends residents for keying into State Government's housing programme as over 300 successful applicants collect keys
Oct 15, 2014 - Thirty -four new home owners on Wednesday emerged at the 8th Draw of the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme with the State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN commending the residents for keying into the State Government's housing programme.
Speaking at the Public Draw which took place at the Blueroof Hall of Ltv Complex, Agidingbi, the Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Hon (Mrs) Adejoke Orelope Adefulire reiterated that the Fashola Administration will not fail in its promise to continue to produce at least 200 new home owners every month.
The Governor while congratulating the new homes owners urged them to continuously spread the news to their family members and friends so that they too can benefit from the laudable initiative of the Fashola Administration.
He also reiterated that the scheme does not discriminate in terms of religion or race, pointing out that people from different parts of the country and of different religious background have won in the past draws and are now proud home owners by virtue of just being Lagos residents with evidence of tax payment and the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency Identification Card.
He urged those who have not won not to be deterred but to continue trying as they could be among the next set of proud home owners in the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Mortgage Board, Mr Akinola Kojo Sagoe said a total of 93 applicants were prequalified for the October Draw.
Mr Sagoe noted that as at today, the Mortgage Board has handed over keys to over 300 successful applicants, stressing that if anyone drives by new HOMS estates like Shogunro and Shitta, he would observe that new communities are springing up there.
Mr Kojo said since the Draws started, people in the age bracket of 28 to 51 have regularly won and this shows that the HOMS scheme is catering for both the youth and senior citizens.
He explained that of these numbers, 46 percent are females while 51 percent are males while the remaining three percent are co-applications which is a possibility that the mortgage board is trying to sell to the public where people can combine income
He stressed that amongst the schemes that were available for the Eighth Draw were Alhaja Adetoun Mustapha and Hon. Olaitan Mustapha Schemes in Ojokoro, Hon Rotimi Shotomiwa Estate in Igbogbo Ikorodu, Igando Gardens in Alimosho, Ilupeju Scheme, Mushin Scheme and Shogunro Scheme 1 and 2 in Ogba.
He added that in no distant time up-coming schemes like Sangotedo in Ibeju-Lekki, Omole in Ikeja, Oko-Oba in Agege, Ajara in Badagry, Magodo II and Iponri Schemes would also be put up for draws for applicants.
